NEW YORK (Reuters) - New York police doubled patrols of the subway system and sent a battery of police cars to transit hubs as a precaution on Monday following the Moscow subway bombings.

In Washington, police sent bomb-sniffing dogs to random Metro stations and rail yards as part of heightened security associated with the Moscow attacks, in which two female suicide bombers killed at least 38 people on packed metro trains during rush hour on Monday.

Swine flu season not over, U.S. health officials warn

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - While swine flu has waned across much of the United States, the southeast is reporting an increase in cases of the H1N1 virus, U.S. health officials said on Monday.

"The flu season is not over yet ... H1N1 has remained persistent in the southeast and now those states are experiencing more local and regional activity," U.S. Surgeon General Regina Benjamin told reporters in a conference call.

Court papers identify JC Penney as hacking victim

NEW YORK (Reuters) - JC Penney Co Inc was one of the victims of notorious computer hacker Albert Gonzalez, according to unsealed documents made available on Monday by a federal judge in Boston.

Penney, which during Gonzalez' trial had asked the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts to bar the government from disclosing its identity, was revealed in the documents to be the company that had been known throughout the trial as "Company A."

MIAMI (Reuters) - With another Atlantic hurricane season just two months away, a new report on Monday highlighted the risk of flooding and storm surge to homeowners in many U.S. coastal regions.

Residential properties in the Miami area alone, considered a prime target, could sustain more than $50 billion in flood damage in a future mega-storm, according to the report issued by First American Corp, a company heavily involved in the U.S. insurance industry.
